THE DETAILS The manufacturer of Dove upped prices by 12.5 percent in the third quarter, an all-time high. Procter & Gamble reported a 9.5 percent rise for the same three-month period.

THE WHY? Unilever’s higher-than-average price rise is due to its higher exposure in emerging markets and food, said Reuters, quoting analysts. Unilever has history of above-average rises; hikinh prices by 9 percent in the final quarter of 2008 during the global financial crisis, considerably above P&G’s 4 percent increase.
